Always-on social: how to build a content calendar that actually works

Most brands don’t struggle with ideas — they struggle with consistency. A good content calendar fixes that. It turns social from a daily scramble into a plan your team can actually follow.

Start with content pillars

Pick three to five themes your brand can talk about credibly and repeatedly — for example behind the scenes, how-to tips, customer stories, product in action and your point of view on your industry. Pillars keep content varied while keeping your brand recognisable.

Plan monthly, publish weekly, react daily

Plan the big pieces a month ahead: launches, seasonal moments and campaigns. Lock in the week’s posts a few days before. Then leave room every day to react to trends, comments and conversations — that’s where a lot of reach comes from.

Match the format to the platform

  • TikTok & Reels: short, native video with a strong first second.
  • Instagram feed & carousels: saveable tips, stories and visuals.
  • LinkedIn: opinion, expertise and company news.
  • Facebook: community, local updates and events.

Don’t forget the community

Publishing is only half of social. Replying to comments and messages quickly — in your brand’s voice — builds trust and shows the platforms that people care about your content.

Measure what matters

Track saves, shares, comments, profile visits and clicks, not just likes. Review every month, double down on what works and drop what doesn’t.

Keep it realistic

Three great posts a week beats seven rushed ones. Choose a cadence you can sustain, then build from there.
